QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CFPA: European Confederation of Fire Protection Associations. Diploma in Fire Prevention and Management. CFPA (EU).
  • Dip. HND: Higher National Diploma, Fire Safety Studies, Fire Service College/University of Central Lancashire, Moreton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire.

Peter started his working life in the British Merchant Navy travelling worldwide in all sizes and types of ocean going oil tankers taking him to over 70 different counties.

After 10 years Peter came ashore and joined the Fire Brigade. He progressed up through the ranks to Station Officer and then eventually specialised in Fire Safety. He also spent time in all other disciplines within the Fire Service including Training, Operations and Station Management. He was in charge at the beginning and continued to manage both the Penhallow Hotel fire and the floods at Boscastle with the vast amount of resources at hand. Following the Boscastle flood Peter received a Certificate of Commendation from Cornwall Fire Brigade. This has also given him the opportunity to travel worldwide where he has attended conferences to delivery papers on disaster management and fire service operations including the 2014 International Conference of the Institution of Fire Engineers in Australia.

Upon retirement he was re engaged with Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service in special projects, this was the nationwide FiReControl Project, He also established his own fire safety company and carried out; Fire Risk Assessment work in Gibraltar, Libya, Eire and United Kingdom for several major national and international organisations in both service provision and retail; Marine fire safety, including Marinas and all associated buildings for both fire risk assessment and waterborne safety information / assessment; Ocean going ship board fire safety work, particularly large oil tankers and associated product carriers.

Finally he has a passion for helping others and continues with his voluntary work with the Rotary International Overseas Project Team in Cornwall. He takes convoys to Kosova with fire engines and other much needed equipment that still has a lot use, rather than being scrapped here in the UK.

Ken’s career started in production management and quality control in the printing industry. He has used that background knowledge of process management in the development of strategic fire safety planning and integrated risk management.

During his 10 years with the National Trust he was responsible for the design and implementation of fire evacuation and salvage planning for Cornwall. Following the fire at Windsor Castle, Ken was involved in the initial stages of the castle’s strategic salvage planning. He was also an advisor to the State’s Art Collection in Dresden following the flooding and has developed salvage training for the Houses of Parliament.

Ken established Heritage Safety Management Services in 2000 and worked as an Associate with WT Partnership specialising in heritage buildings in Healthcare, prior to becoming a Director of WT Partnership from 2007-13 for whom he wrote their Business Continuity Strategy for international operations. Whilst with WTP he was the lead fire safety consultant for Royal Marsden Hospital Sutton & Chelsea – for the reconstruction and development of both hospitals following the January 2008 fire at Chelsea. He was also project fire safety advisor to The Royal Free, St. George’s and other healthcare establishments.

Ken has worked alongside Vital Safety for a number of years to develop integrated risk management systems for clients to link fire safety management to other operational risks. In 2010 it was agreed that he took a directorship with the company and became lead consultant and systems management developer for a major international retail organisation.

Ken has lectured extensively in Conservation Safety Management throughout Europe and was a Lecturer and Academic Author for BSc and Post Graduate level courses in Emergency Planning and Disaster Management at University of Hull.

Jeff holds qualifications in Fire Safety and Risk Management as well as Health and Safety, with 40 years experience in the fire industry. He started as a fire fighter with Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and served in numerous ranks and positions, retiring when he was Operational Commander for the west of Cornwall.

Fire Safety was an important part of Jeff’s work throughout his career as an inspecting and enforcement officer for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service. Fire Safety Inspections and reports were carried out at premises including Hotels, Schools, Factories, Shops, Houses in Multiple Occupation, Licensed Premises. Liaison was frequently carried out with partner organisations including Local Authority, Police, Health and Safety Inspectors.

During his fire service career he served in numerous supervisory ranks, and operational roles including: Cliff Rescue; Ship and Port Fire Fighting; Explosive Store Inspections; Hazardous Materials; Road Traffic Collisions.

As part of his role as an operational on call supervisory officer, Jeff attended many serious fire and rescue incidents throughout Cornwall. Fire Investigations were frequently carried out and this included attendance at Coroners Court and Crown Court.

Jeff has attended and successfully completed numerous progression courses at the Fire Service College. He also completed the Specialist Fire Prevention Officers Course, Ship and Port Fire Fighting and Hazardous Materials courses.

In 2004, he joined the NHS and worked part-time as a Fire Safety Advisor for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust for nearly 10 years becoming experienced in the specialist fire safety issues presented in acute healthcare settings.

He also started his own Fire Safety Training and Consultancy business carrying out inspections and Fire Risk Assessments at a variety of premises, both within Cornwall and further afield. These include retail, office, residential, factory, and health premises. Jeff also acts as fire safety consultant to Cornwall Residential Landlord’s Association.

Alan joined the Fire Service specialising as an operational instructor. He attended development training at the Fire ServiceTraining College at Moreton-in-Marsh as a Watch Commamder and Breathing Apparatus and Road Traffic Accident Instructor. He also specialised in instructing & examining on Hydraulic & Arial Ladder Platforms.

Since leaving the service Alan has provided hospital and healthcare training packages to ISO 9001 Quality Management System standards from Lecture Theatre based induction fire safety awareness and annual fire safety updates to Fire Warden and Fire Team with fire extinguisher training.

A member of the National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers Alan has City & Guilds qualifications as “Competencies in Training and Development Vocational Assessor” and “Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Section” and IOSH Managing Safely.
